  1. Roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider: Participants learn about their responsibilities in providing first aid for infants and children, including legal and regulatory considerations.
  2. Assessing and managing incidents and casualties: The course covers the systematic approach to assessing and managing first aid situations, including the primary survey, secondary assessment, and ongoing monitoring of the child's condition.
  3. Resuscitation and dealing with choking: Participants learn techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for infants and children, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). They also learn how to respond to a child who is choking.
  4. Dealing with common medical conditions and injuries: The training covers a wide range of common medical conditions and injuries that may affect infants and children, such as asthma, allergies, burns, fractures, and seizures. Participants learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms, provide appropriate first aid, and seek additional medical help if necessary.
  5. First aid for specific age groups: The course addresses the unique needs and considerations for different age groups, including newborn, infants, and older children. Participants learn how to adapt their approach to provide effective first aid based on the child's age and developmental stage.

Course Delivery

The delivery of the RQF Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course generally includes a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Here are some common delivery methods for this course:

  1. Classroom-Based Training: Many training providers offer classroom-based training where participants attend in-person sessions led by qualified instructors. These sessions typically involve interactive lectures, group discussions, and practical demonstrations. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in role-playing scenarios, and practice the necessary skills under the guidance of the instructor.
  2. Blended Learning: Some providers offer a blended learning approach, combining online modules with in-person practical sessions. Participants complete self-paced online modules to gain the foundational knowledge and understanding of paediatric first aid. They then attend in-person sessions for hands-on practice, skill demonstrations, and assessments. This approach allows for flexibility and self-paced learning while ensuring practical skills are adequately addressed.
  3. Practical Workshops: In some cases, the course may be delivered primarily through practical workshops. Participants engage in hands-on training and practice various skills related to paediatric first aid. Voices of Trust and Success

I can’t believe how much I learned about mental health in just one day. The course is really interesting and very informative - Lou teaches in a way that enables plenty of interaction and discussion between the learners, breaking down any stigma people may have about talking about mental health issues. I now think very differently about how a person may be thinking or feeling, and I am mindful of their words and actions and how it could be a warning sign or a cry for help. Being a mental health first aider means I could make a difference to someone who is struggling. That is a massive and personal thing to me.

An excellent course that was informative and well taught. Louise did a brilliant job of explaining all areas of First Aid-what we needed to do and why which massively helped the learning experience and my ability to retain life saving information. I would highly recommend this course.

From the start to finish Louise was informative, practical and interesting. With her extensive background and experience within the medical industry including A an E, she was able to pitch real scenarios at us regardless of the nature of our business or employment which made the whole day much more relevant. Very Highly recommended to anyone either refreshing or starting First Aid for the first time and I wouldn't hesitate to offer her and Madeleys First Aid Plus services to anyone who needs First Aid qualifications.

First Aid at Work

Phil Rowley, Rowley Racing

Louise came highly recommended for Mental Health First Aid training and after a chat with her, I quickly realised she was definitely the right fit for me and my team. Louise was efficient, patient (7 rather chatty women), friendly and tremendously knowledgable which made the course one of the best training sessions I have ever been on. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and nearly three weeks later, we are still talking about the training and more importantly, putting it into practice. I feel fortunate to have found someone who understood our needs and could deliver so effectively to such a diverse team. Keeping everyone's interest and getting all of us engaged is no meant feat and Lou made it look easy.
